Home for the Holidays

Well my niece Karen arrived safely home this evening.  Can you imagine how she must have felt.  It took her 36 hours of trains, planes and continually altered plans.  She spent the night in an airport in Paris only to learn her flight was canceled.  She finally made it home by way of Miami, Florida.  Imagine what it was like to see her family's faces at the airport.  Imagine what it was like to step into her home after spending the three months in a foreign country.  Coming home.

"I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams."   Christmas is about coming home.  It is not so much a place as it is a feeling. That sense of a family embrace, a place of safe harbor in a storm, a place where they have to take you in.   God seeks to welcome us all  into loving arms.

John 1:1-14 tells speaks about Jesus as God's "Word" becoming flesh and dwelling with us.   Literally it says God "pitched his tent with us."   Where ever we go, if we open ourselves to the love of God, we are home.

If you are lonely, afraid, or simply worn out, ask the living God to come into your heart and experience the peace of coming home.
